Awonderful, early-Victorianwax seal fob, modeled in 15k rose gold, whose bezel-set, agate (carnelian) seal features an intaglio carved rebus. This rebus puzzles out to mean: I hope you are well! An anchor was the popular symbol for hope during the Victorian era, and the tree in this diagram is a Yew tree. The fob itself is classically formed, with a broad stirrup-shaped arch, a round finial bail, andfine, hand-engraved lines, both straight and pinwheeling. The seal is in lovely condition, and was (at some point) rubbed with ink to better show the carving. Since this was an object frequently touched and used by its original owner, the body of the seal shows significant smoothing.A large, 15k gold split ring is connected to the fob's open final— these large old rings are quickly becoming a rarity. This would wear beautifully on a long weighty chain, alone or paired with other meaningful charms.
If you are interested in purchasing the fob without the split ring, please inquire for price.
